WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE....

Hildreth Cemetery in Lowell here in Massachusetts has been vandalized.
You can read about it here from the Boston Globe.

I understand the kids call these events "kicking parties".

I think they themselves need a few good swift kicks administered to them from
parents, police, and the descendants of the deceased whose graves
they desecrated.

After they are given their swift kicks maybe they should be put to work fixing all the damage.

Cemetery vandalism upsets me to no end - there was an incident last month in my hometown of Liberty, NY and luckily the teens who did this were apprehended.

I wish there were a campaign in the schools to educate kids on the importance of our cemeteries - perhaps this is something the Graveyard Rabbit Association should take up.

'Remorseful' Teen Faces Desecration Charges
Hundreds of Gravestones Toppled By Vandals

LOWELL, Mass. -- A Lowell teen will face charges that he desecrated as many as 150 grave sites at the Hildreth Cemetery earlier this month, the Lowell Sun reported. A summons has been issued for Nathaniel Rivera, 18, who police said admitted he had been drinking on Oct. 3 when he became angry over a personal issue and began toppling the gravestones.

Some of the gravestones were simply knocked over, but 90 others were broken off at the base and cannot be repaired, Dracut Cemetery Commissioner John Metros told the newspaper.

The damage to the cemetery has been estimated to be close to $10,000.

Rivera felt remorse when he saw the pictures of the desecration published in the newspaper, Lowell Police Capt. Kelly Richardson said.

Rivera told police that two friends participated in the vandalism, but he has refused to identify them. Copyright 2009 by TheBostonChannel.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

90 gravestones destroyed. How will they be replaced? Let's face it, this kid and his parents won't
have the $10,000 to repair the
damage. Maybe they can sentence him to making replacement stones for the ones that cannot be repaired.

We need to find a way to be proactive and teach kids to respect
cemeteries!
