As a matter of fact, it has been since this Monday. I have been so wrapped
up in researching , transcribing and posting here on my blog that I've been
a bit behind on my blog reading and just now saw the COG was out. I plead
old age and other stuff like that as an excuse. Anyway, this edition focused
on cars and you should go right over to Jasia's Creative Gene and start reading
all the great posts folks have come up with about the cars in their family's
history.
While you're at it, consider joining the fun and submitting a blog post for the
next Carnival. These are the details:
"Call for Submissions! The topic for the next edition of the COG will be:
Favorite Current Technology. What's your favorite technology of the
moment? Do you love your iPad? Do you find yourself spending a lot of
time on the site of a newly discovered database? Do you have a handy
new cell phone app you'd like to share with others? Are you learning a
new piece of genealogy software? Got a new digital camera? Tell us
all about your latest and greatest technology and how it benefits your
genealogy research or the recording of your family history. The deadline
for submission is May 1st. No limit on the number of submissions for
this edition.
Submit your blog article to the next edition of the Carnival of Genealogy
using our carnival submission form. Please use a descriptive phrase in the
title of any articles you plan to submit and/or write a brief description/introduction
to your articles in the "comment" box of the blog carnival submission form.
This will give readers an idea of what you've written about and hopefully interest
them in clicking on your link. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our
blog carnival index page."
Sounds like a good topic and I have a post in mind for it.!
A blog about genealogy and thoughts about the various roots and branches of my family tree as well as the times in which my ancestors lived.Included are the West, White, and McFarland families.WARNING:DO NOT TAKE ALL OF MY FAMILY RECORDS AS GOSPEL. ALWAYS CONFIRM YOUR OWN RESEARCH!

THE 101st EDITION OF THE CARNIVAL OF GENEALOGY IS UP!
Once again Jasia has done a great job of rounding up posts from
the geneablogging community. This time over forty of us wrote on
"Our genealogy research/writing plans for 2011! "
There's plenty of good reading and helpful information that
you might use to plan your own genealogy research here. So
go on over to Jasia's Creative Gene blog and read, then vote
in her poll on the topic for the 102nd edition of the Carnival
of Genealogy!

THE 94TH CARNIVAL OF GENEAOLOGY IS HERE!
Jasia over at Creative Gene has done it again! The 94th Carnival of Genealogy
is up and there's some great genealogy blog reading for us to enjoy. The topic
for this edition was:
"... the changing roles of women. We all know that women's roles have
changed over the centuries but have you stopped to think about how and
when women's roles have changed within your own family?"
One of the great things about the CoG is that I always discover some new
geneablogs to follow written by talented, enthusiastic writers and that holds
true for this latest edition. Read the CoG and discover some for yourself!
Oh, and by the way, consider contributing a post to the next CoG yourself. The
theme for the 95th CoG is:
"...The Annual Swimsuit Edition! Yes folks, it's that time again... time to look
over your photo collection of bathing beauties and select one to share. Bring
us your pin-up girls, guys in Speedos, or kids building sand castles. Summer
is here and it's time to show us how your family members have enjoyed
the water and the summertime heat! The deadline for submissions is July
1st. Thirty submissions will be accepted.

I haven't submitted anything to the CoG since my little er...vacation.... Hmm,
I wonder if there's any more beach pictures in the Big Tub of Photographs?

THE CARNIVAL OF GENEALOGY IS UP!
The 89th edition of the Carnival of Genealogy is up over at Jasia's
Creative Gene blog and the assignment was to write a poem
suitable for use as an introduction to a book or video on your family's
history. Eighteen geneabloggers took the challenge and the results
are outstanding. Be sure to check them out!
As per usual, Jasia then issued the call for submissions to the next
COG:
"The topic for the next edition (#90!) of the COG will be: The
Third Annual iGene Awards, The Best of The Best! It's
Academy awards time... time for the Academy of Genealogy and
Family History, aka AGFH, to honor their best blog posts of 2009
in the following 5 categories:
"The deadline for submissions is February 15th, 30 submissions
will be accepted.
Submit your blog article to the next edition of the Carnival of Genealogy
using our carnival submission form ."
This one is always fun and I'm looking forward to reading it!

ODE TO MY FAMILY HISTORY
For the 89th edition of the Carnival of Genealogy Jasia over at
Creative Gene has given us poetic license:
"This time around we'll be composing a poem that tells our family's history.
It can be long or short, rhyme or not rhyme, funny or serious, illustrated
or not... you choose, but make it appropriate as an introduction for a book
or video on your family history. The challenge is on! The deadline for
submissions is February 1st, 30 submissions accepted."
I have to admit to a lack of self-confidence here. I've written poetry
before but rarely on a set topic or with a deadline. The last time I
did one like this was something I wrote for one of Randy Seaver's
challenges. But making it the introduction to a book about my family
history did help. I've always thought of my family as being one of
the many that came to this country and whose work helped form
the foundation of a new nation, so that's what I based the poem on.
For brevity's sake, I chose to write only about my father's ancestors
and left my mom's Irish ancestors out of this one. So I guess I owe
them a poem!
So here's my Ode to My Family History:
To the reader who may look
Through the pages of this book
That deals with the great mystery
Of our long family history:
For nearly now four hundred years
Our family tree has flourished here
By strength of heart, and back and hand
They made a life in New England.
They cleared the forest with great toil
Planted crops in furrowed soil
And in each acre that they tilled
The promise of a dream fulflled
For them no glory ever came
But they were heroes just the same
The common woman, child and man
Who helped to build this New England.

BEDTIME GENEALOGY 25
Just a couple of notes whilst waiting for sleepiness:
First, congratulations to footnoteMaven on the write-up on
her Shades of the Departed blog in the latest issue of
Internet Genealogy magazine. It was very complimentary
to her and to contributors Jasia, George Geder and
Craig Manson. Way to go, ftM!
Secondly, has anyone else had their Norton security software
suddenly block access to Eastman's Genealogy Blog? This
happened yesterday when I was doing my usual genealogy
blog browsing and I thought it might have been something
I was doing wrong at the time. But I just tried to view the site
again and once more had it blocked. I won't go into the details
here but I had to ask to see if anyone else is having the
same trouble. Email me if you have any idea what this is all
about.
